Sammy is a junior at Augusta High School where she loves cheering others on. She already enjoys learning about the medical field.Sammy likes to keep things lighthearted and fun, and she is continually encouraging friends and befriending those whom others may not appreciate. Her friendships are very important to her, and her super power is being honest, even when being honest doesn’t seem like the easiest route. To be Sammy’s best friend, you need to know that she is sarcastic, sassy, and that she will always be there for you when you need her.Sammy is RESILIENT, and confides that sometimes you just have to keep moving on. “Throughout my life, things haven’t always been easy for me. I’ve had many ups and downs that made me mature way faster than many of my peers. The first event that kind of messed up my life was when my dad passed away in April of 2011, when I was in the fifth grade. When my dad passed away, I thought my whole life was going to change, and in a way it did. During my childhood I was always a daddy’s girl, and the morning of April 27th, I lost my best friend, my fishing partner, and my dad.”
“The next life changing event was the day my grandma started getting sick again. It was right before summer started, and I decided I would help take care of her as needed. This was a great idea, because my grandma and I got really close. She was in the hospital getting a surgery a couple years later and she was doing really well, but on the night of October 5th, 2014, she coded, altering my life once again.”
“My life didn’t get any better on its own, but I chose to stand with my head held high, and not let harsh events in my life change my happiness. The best feeling in the whole world is watching things finally fall into place after they’ve fallen apart for so long. I started to realize that even though I had lost so many people in my life, I still have so many people who mean everything to me. I continue to surround myself with my friends and my family, truly cherishing every single moment with them, because you never know when it’s going to be the last.” Sammy wants to encourage young girls to never give up on your dreams, no matter what comes your way.
